I hate the fact that the two are so intertwined.
I'm actually fine, money-wise. I have a small but usable income and a job that I like. This is not a 'give me money' or 'commission me' journal. It's just me thinking out loud.
When I created the Forsaken, I did not do so with the intent to create a franchise-type breed, and I'm still not going to. They are still under construction, mostly because I want to do more with that world than just HArpg. It's Spider King's world. It's got stories and plots and epicness that goes beyond just the horse art game, and when I set precedents in it I want them to be well-thought out. Unlike my first work. *coughbelladonnacough*
Anyway, I kinda swore off getting bribed to sell my personal creations in that whole project. With the Little Spooks, I wanted to see what the reception would be for a creation-to-creation trade. Sometimes our personal creations are more valuable to us than points or cash. How willing are people to trade their creations? Quite, it seems. I got a great response and have a to-draw list a mile long now! This is good- this is exactly what I hoped for.
But with the Vaix... they're also from Spider King's world but they are not a part of his plots. I have a lot more development to put in them and have roughed-out colors, different terrain types, and different levels of intelligence and interaction with the rest of their world. Some are raven-like in their ability to use tools and use cause-and-effect reasoning. Some are pack predators, with a hierarchy and communication skills. Some are loners, solitary predators. Some have been domesticated. All are unique.
I think that's the most important thing about them. There won't be any 'adoptables' among the Vaix. Every single individual that I create for use outside my own personal stable will have a bloodline and character sheet to go with it, and to own one, that information must be acknowledged by its new owner. They will not be limited to HArpg, but can be used in other RPs and worlds and such- but the base character must remain true to its nature and story of origin. (This is also what I intend to do with the Forsaken tribes, once I have all their details to my liking.)
For this level of work, would people be interested in/willing to exchange real money (points or paypal)? The purchase of a Vaix or another of similar level of construction from my stables would include a full digital character sheet usable by its new owner for reference on forums, etc. How much would you spend on a fully-developed, fully-illustrated character? I know my own level of self-publicity is too low to command much of a price. This isn't meant to be an imitation of anyone's existing sales program, nor is it meant to be a response to any of them. This is me considering and conversing aloud. It may be that nothing comes of this, or it may be that I launch a whole project based on these guys in the coming year. Thoughts? Responses?
(Incentive: give me a good, well-thought out response, and I'll add your name to the next sheet of adoptables I make.)
